,” : As a public school teacher I’m always amused at the bias or ignorance of those who criticize me and my hardworking colleagues. Laura Stegner, the Texas chapter chair of the National Coalition for Public School Choice, exhibits both of those qualities. I’m not sure if her letter was an opinion or an advertisement for the online preparatory school her son attended. I didn’t realize that my fellow teachers and I were assuming the role of scientists and it is ridiculous for someone to say so.
Maybe she should grow a spine and criticize the majority of parents who put in hardly any effort during COVID as far as how much and what their children were learning during this time. That goes for her as well. If she thinks she can do better, I suggest she quit her job and work at a public school. I’d love to see how she does.Regarding “Schools lean on unvetted teachers,” : Ms. Richman mentions the support that these “teachers” receive during the school year.
