OpenAI is reportedly working on a social media feed similar to X for hosting images generated with ChatGPT.
It seems OpenAI is looking to create a social network for sharing images generated by ChatGPT. While the exact nature of this network is currently unclear, OpenAI’s venture into the social media game could intensify competition with known rivals like X and Meta.
Anonymous sources “familiar with the matter” revealed that OpenAI is working on an X-like social media feed that would host ChatGPT-generated images by users, according to The Verge. This social network would reportedly serve to boost the visibility of the chatbot’s image generator, which has recently gone viral due to the Ghibli trend. It would also become a source for real-time user data that can be used to train AI models.
It is still uncertain whether Altman’s idea is to create a standalone social networking app, or one that is integrated with ChatGPT. The latter would be similar to existing feeds like on Midjourney and OpenAI's own Sora. Additionally, a feed of user-generated content isn’t exactly a genuine social media platform.That said, the emergence of an OpenAI social media app would further fuel the feud between Altman and Elon Musk, who owns X.
