OpenAI o1-preview is capable of 'reasoning' through problems, making it the best version of ChatGPT for complex equations and research.
The company says it will be most useful for scientists, mathematicians and anyone who needs help with complex, time-consuming problems., OpenAI, say they have rolled out the most capable version of ChatGPT’s AI yet with OpenAI o1-preview. The company calls this innovation “a new series of reasoning models for solving hard problems.”
However, and perhaps marked by the “Preview” suffix in the name, OpenAI o1 is still lacking a lot of the features that GPT-4o has, features that make ChatGPT more useful for users. For example, it can’t search the web for information and it can’t read through or study uploaded documents or images from users.
In fact, OpenAI says that the new model will be most useful for people who are tackling complex problems in fields such as science, coding, mathematics and similar. It gives an example of how o1 can be used by healthcare researchers to annotate cell sequencing data, or by physicist to generate complicated mathematical formulas for quantum optics.
“On one of our hardest jailbreaking tests, GPT-4o scored 22 while our o1-preview model scored 84,” the company says.
