If you were thinking that Eris working with Savathun to achieve immense power sounded familiar, and potentially bad, you’re not alone. Destiny 2’s writers remembered that yes,
“Were you even listening?” Elsie screamed, her hands shaking in frustration. “How many reports, Ikora? How many times did I tell you what I saw?”What Elsie is referring to is the fact that in her timeline, Eris became an all-powerful servant of Savathun, fully embracing the darkness and becoming immensely strong. And very evil. She was effectively the main villain of the entire Dark Future saga, commanding an army of Dark Guardians.
The seeds of “maybe this is not a great idea” are being planted already. Ikora worries about Eris and Immaru keeps talking about how Eris won’t want to give up this power in the end. Elsie is mad because this scenario could lead to exactly the same outcome, with a few different variables, creating supervillain, Hive/Darkness-serving Eris who could kill Mara, Ana, whoever. Ikora, in the dark timeline, is dead, though we know that’s not the case by The Final Shape, clearly.
Now, I don’t think we are heading to the exact events of the Dark Future happening, but I do wonder if there is going to be some sort of reckoning with Eris that isn’t “she gets powerful, she helps us kill Xivu Arath, she goes back to normal.” That would be a little too easy. Elsie’s “fix the timeline” goal is essentially to kill evil Eris before this all plays out so uh, is that where we could be heading? We’ll see what happens as time goes on but yeah we should uh, probably keep an eye on her.
