“We don’t want you to think of Lexi as just a number,” she told the committee. “She stood her ground. She was firm, direct, voice unwavering. So today we stand for Lexi and as her voice we demand action.”, Mata-Rubio is a lifelong Uvalde resident. She is currently employed by the paper as an advertising executive, but has previously worked as an administrative assistant, staff writer and assistant editor.
“It would be easy to run from the issues that plague our town, but I have decided to remain in Uvalde and be part of the change that is long overdue,” Mata-Rubio told thein an interview announcing her run. “Our leadership became comfortable, which led to the events that unfolded on May 24, 2022.
