PARIS—With one year to go before Paris hosts the Paralympic Games for the first time, the French capital is faced with a significant challenge: The accessibility of its public transit. out of 16, the city is under pressure to find solutions before the Paralympics start on Aug. 28, 2024.

Andrew Parsons, president of the International Paralympic Committee, said in an interview with The Associated Press that “we don’t do anything in the city thinking only about the Games operations, but also about how the city will look like in the future.” “It’s a legislation issue as well — that you have to make the whole line accessible — and this is not possible due to the cost,” Parsons said. ‘’But the solution is to invest on the buses and the taxis and on the on-the-ground system.”

The Paris Paralympics begin 17 days after the Olympics’ closing ceremony. The Paralympics bring together 4,400 athletes from 180 countries in 549 events and 22 sports. Many sports will take place in venues near iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Versailles, and the Grand Palais.
