It turns out One Piece’s creator considered cutting off the series way earlier than we ever knew:
One Piece has been around for more than a couple of decades at this point, and creator Eiichiro Oda is not done with the series just yet. Not long ago, headlines were flooded over the manga when reports confirmed One Piece would enter its final act later this year. With an end in sight, all eyes are on Oda to see how he wraps Luffy's journey, but it turns out he considered closing things up way before now.
During this timeframe, it seems Oda put in even more work to see his family regularly, and the actor admits things got better after his brood expanded. After sharing their concerns, Oda's daughter rescued a chihuahua, and the pair became very close. This gave Oda some time back to dedicate to One Piece, and now, he is ready to explore the manga's final act following its summer hiatus.
