One Piece's introduction of S-Snake created a lot of controversy around the Love-Love Fruit, but a recent SBS has finally cleared up the issue.

Following the release of One Piece volume #106, series creator Eiichiro Oda has finally addressed the series’ most problematic Devil Fruit: the Love-Love Fruit. While Boa Hancock's Love-Love Fruit had been part of One Piece for well over a decade, a major issue with it appeared when S-Snake, Hancock’s Seraphim, was also able to use its power while being a child.

One Piece Already Set Up The Love-Love Fruit’s True Power One Piece volume #106’s SBS confirms that the Love-Love Fruit doesn’t need the target to be attracted to the user, but this was arguably set up long before that. During the Paramount War saga, one of Hancock’s attacks petrified not only her opponents but the cannonballs they fired at her.

Something else to take away from One Piece’s clarification of how the Love-Love Fruit works is that it makes Hancock’s slightly less dark than it could have been. Hancock was forced to eat the Love-Love Fruit at a young age while she was a slave to the Celestial Dragons, and since they had been shown to treat women as objects, there was an implication of a sexual component to Hancock being fed the Love-Love Fruit.

One Piece’s SBS Makes Hancock’s Backstory Less Dark Hancock’s backstory of being a slave and becoming a cruel misanthropist is already one of the darkest stories in the series, but if this way more troublesome implications were also involved, then it would be too dark for a story like One Piece, and make it far less believable that Hancock could try and change herself as easily as she did after meeting Luffy.
