Jamie Oliver's casual style and advocacy for school children made him a fan favorite. But his restaurant empire has gone bust

For the past 20 years, Britain's Jamie Oliver has been one of the most visible celebrity chefs on food television.Oliver's friendly, casual style is said to have inspired British men to cook and led to multiple television programs, cookbooks and eventually a restaurant empire.went into receivershipTwenty-two of the restaurants were part of the Jamie's Italian chain, which launched in 2008, just as a recession began to affect diners and change eating habits.

The move, which Oliver tried to stave off by investing his own money in the chain, was expected to cost as many as 1,300 jobs, according to British press reports.A British court installed administrators, like Chapter 11 trustees, to oversee the remaining assets of Oliver's restaurants. "The group had recently undertaken a process to secure additional investment into the business and, since the beginning of this year, Jamie Oliver has made available additional funds of £4m to support the fundraising," said the administrators in a statement, according to the BBC.

"However, with no suitable investment forthcoming and in light of the very difficult current trading environment, the directors resolved to appoint administrators."In a statement, Oliver added:"We launched Jamie's Italian in 2008 with the intention of positively disrupting mid-market dining in the UK High Street, with great value and much higher quality ingredients, best-in-class animal welfare standards and an amazing team who shared my passion for great food and service.

However, Oliver's restaurant chain came along as many Londoners and other diners across the country were embracing delivery services, at a faster clip than their counter parts in the United States.
