Screen Rant presents an exclusive clip from the home release of EmpireofLight, which will be available on Blu--ray February 21, in which Olivia Colman's co-stars gush about her talent and work ethic:

Screen Rant is pleased to present an exclusive clip from the upcoming release of Empire of Light. The film's setting is a movie theater at the end of its run in a small coastal town in England during the 1980s. This personal story from writer and director Sam Mendes stars Olivia Colman , Colin Firth , Toby Jones , and Michael Ward. Empire of Light released in the US digitally on February 7, and will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on February 21.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Hilary manages a fading cinema in a provincial English coastal town and struggles with her mental health. Stephen is a new employee at the cinema, who dreams of getting out of the small, narrow-minded town where he faces daily adversity. The two will forge a relationship that will alleviate some of their cares and bring a sense of belonging while they experience the healing power of music, cinema, and community.

The trailer gives a poignant look at the story behind the film. A voiceover by the cinema's projectionist, Norman , explains the way film works using a tiny flaw in our optic nerves that allows pictures shown at a 24-frame rate to appear as a movement. Perfectly timed with these words are shots of Hilary and Stephen as they experience sorrow and despair, only to then be lifted into the light by their newfound relationship.

Empire of Light is just one compelling film distributed by Searchlight Pictures in 2023. The studio currently has a major Oscar contender, Banshees of Inisheren, which had a strong showing at the BAFTA awards over the weekend. The film took home awards for Best British Film, Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor , and Best Supporting Actress .
