In the film, a supporting character voiced by Uzo Aduba kisses her wife, marking the first display of affection between same-sex characters in a Pixar film. The studio has been known to feature underlying LGBT themes in previous films.As a result of the scene, the film has been banned in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
Lightyear went on to earn $51 million at the box office during its premiere weekend, behind Jurassic World: Dominion, which premiered the weekend before. Globally, it made $86 million.Chris Evans, the voice of the titular Buzz Lightyear character, stood by the scene, which was very nearly removed, saying he hopes for a day"where it is the norm" to include same-sex romance.
