“At some point, you’ve gotta get up there, draw a line in the sand and say, ‘We’re gonna move people,’” Ryan Day said of Ohio State's run game.
This list features two third-and-2 opportunities. Both failed on run plays where the Buckeyes went with a jumbo package featuring the typical starting offensive line, three tight ends and an extra tackle in freshman Luke Montgomery.
The first led to a completion to Gee Scott Jr. in the flat. The second time wasn’t so successful, leading to a pick after Chip Trayanum was flipped over on his head as the first read, leaving McCord scrambling to find an outlet. If Trayanum stays upright, that play probably converts too. “I felt like if you can get to fourth-and-1 then you can run it again,” Day said. “But when you call it on third-and-2 and you get zero both times and now it’s fourth and 2 you don’t have a lot of confidence that you’re going to get 2 yards. That’s what it came down to.”
