After being replaced by Lathan Ransom following the first series of the season opener, safety Josh Proctor was back starting against Arkansas State.

“I didn't get it the first week,” Proctor said, “so I just came out, played with my heart, try not to get overwhelmed, try to calm myself and just play football.”

On the first snap against Notre Dame, the rangy safety missed a tackle, a slip that led wide receiver Lorenzo Styles to take off deep in the Buckeyes’ territory.as Lathan Ransom took over as the “Bandit” safety, lining up on the boundary side of the field. Safeties coach Perry Eliano said in the days leading up to kickoff that the Buckeyes would rotate both of them.“He wanted me to keep being a leader in that DB room and not give up on myself,” Proctor said. “That was the biggest thing he wanted me to take away from our conversation.”

The rotation tilted heavily in favor of Ransom, a junior, against Notre Dame because of his immediate impact. He totaled seven tackles, the second-most on the team in the opening win.
