Authorities are confident the bodies found near Williamsport are those of sisters who were starved to death but need DNA test results to confirm it.

Marie Snyder walks by reporters after leaving the Lycoming County courthouse in March where she testified that she and her female partner intentionally starved to death her two daughters. At right is Old Lycoming Twp. Detective Robert Mausteller.WILLIAMSPORT – Positive identification remains lacking eight months after the remains of two young girls were discovered in shallow graves in Lycoming County.

But until the results of DNA tests are received that cannot be confirmed, District Attorney Ryan C. Gardner said Wednesday. DNA is being used because there were no dental records for the girls, he said.33, at the preliminary hearing for Echo Lane Butler, 26, should be sufficient for identification purposes at any trial, he said.

Nicole, 6, weighed approximately 10 pounds when she died about May 10, 2016, and Jasmine, 4, only 5 pounds when she died about Aug. 11, 2016, their mother said. The court arraignments for Snyder and Echo Butler have been continued again to Oct. 17. The defense wanted more time to review the discovery provided so far, Gardner said.as he has said he plans to do for the two.
