Nine people were shot, including two fatally, over the weekend in New Jersey's largest city, according to authorities.
Rasheed Mells, 24, was shot in the 700 block of 20th Street in Newark’s West Ward and died at the scene shortly after 6 p.m., according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Officers with the county sheriff’s office alerted prosecutor’s office investigators about the shooting.
Newark saw a total of nine people shot, including two fatally in separate attacks in a 25-hour span between Saturday and Sunday evening, according to authorities.
