Official: Moroccan League Postponed For AFL
The Moroccan top flight has confirmed the suspension of their league partly due to Wydad Casablanca's participation in the new African Football League.
The Botola Pro League, Morocco's top division, has officially been postponed in order to accommodate the participation of their representative in the upcoming CAF African Football League., the north African nation's top flight is set to only resume on 26 October, a day after Wydad Athletic Club play the second leg of their AFL quarter-final against Nigerian giants Enyimba FC.
Currently, players are scattered all over the world as they represent their countries during this international break, and while most of them will return to club action next weekend, that will not be the case for those plying their trade in the Botola Pro. "The league will resume on October 26, due to maintenance work on the stadiums, especially changing the grass," a statement from the league read.
"The postponement is also in order to make room for Wydad Club, the sole representative of Moroccan football in the African League, to participate without postponing its matches in the league, in accordance with the principle of equal opportunities."This comes amid rumours that South Africa's top flight, the Premier Soccer League, is refusing to endorse Mamelodi Sundowns' participation in the tournament by extending the 2023/24 season.
