Official: CAF Set To Decide AFCON Dates
It has been confirmed that CAF is close to deciding when the next Africa Cup of Nations will be held.
CAF has confirmed that it is set to decide when the next Africa Cup of Nations will be held this weekend.Following the success of the previous edition in the Ivory Coast, the football fraternity has been clamouring to find out when the next one in Morocco will be staged. It was originally supposed to take place after the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, but with the newly expanded FIFA Club World Cup expected to be held then, CAF has had to figure out an alternative solution.
However, the organisation's head of TV and communications, Luxolo September, has revealed that African football's governing body will decide when the continental showpiece will be held after their executive committee takes place this weekend.
"Everyone probably thinks we just aren't doing anything about it, but I know our president is actively involved, talking to FIFA, UEFA, the European Club Association."And I think for the first time, by the way, CAF has a direct line to the ECA, UEFA, FIFA, and all stakeholders, as well as FIFPro, whom CAF have been engaging, and this is probably a first in African football – where the leadership has open engagement.
