Off-duty Michigan cop among 2 wounded in River North hotel when weapon discharged

Police said two people were wounded when a firearm was discharged inside a River North hotel room Saturday afternoon. One of the injured, the person who had been handling the gun, is an off-duty police officer from Michigan, according to a Chicago Fire Department spokesperson. Officers responded to the hotel in the 300 block of North Dearborn Street at approximately 3:10 p.m. Saturday. The 23-year-old off-duty police officer had been handling a gun when it fired, striking himself in the left hand and a 25-year-old man in the stomach.Both men were transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition.
