March is Women’s month, and as a woman, it is quite heartwarming to have a month dedicated to us, and celebrating us in all our choices, decisions, multi faceted roles in life, and forms. All biases aside, a lot of the times, women wear multiple hats — as mothers, homemakers, providers for the family — and sometimes, even take on multiple jobs. Women’s brains are clearly predisposed not only to be able to multi task, but to be able to do so well.
Many say that women are the glue that keeps a home together, and I cannot emphasize enough how much I believe this. Oftentimes, it is their tough, but caring touch that cements many things. It is their love that does not only nurture a home, but that continuously nourishes. That same love that during life’s bumps, crises and obstacles, we look back at, seek comfort in, and shield ourselves with. That love, that unknowingly made us who we are, and had guided us through the years.
Women, I believe , are innately nurturers. Whether at home, or in the workplace, it is almost our second nature to look out for those around us. In as much as women are given the reputation of being hormonal, emotional, irrational, the list goes on – the true strength of a woman, I find, is being able to function, be purposeful and successful despite these perceived flaws and weaknesses. Women have lived through these labels, and have faced them headstrong whether aware or not.
Women give life. In so many ways. Whether we see this as women carrying children for nine months, and then giving birth to them, women working in the healthcare sector nursing patients back to health; women who work as domestic workers here and abroad, women who have dedicated their lives to teaching, or quite simply, even as basic as consoling someone who otherwise may have taken their life — women truly are bred for purpose, and to help others realize their purpose.
So whether it is March, or not, may we never forget to give a nod to the women in our lives. As the saying goes: “Here’s to strong women. May we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.”
