Filipino Olympian EJ Obiena matched his own Philippine indoor pole vault record and claimed the bronze medal at the 2023 Mondo Classic in Uppsala, Sweden early Friday .Obiena cleared 5.91 meters to finish third behind second placer American KC Lightfoot and Swedish world record holder Mondo Duplantis, who ruled the event named after him.
94 meters, started his 2023 indoor season campaign with a silver medal at the Internationales Springer-Meeting in Germany followed by a gold at the Perche En Or competition in France last week.Obiena tried to hurdle the 6.0-meter and 6.05-meter bars at the Mondo Classic but was unsuccessful in all of his attempts.Lightfoot, likewise, cleared 5.91 meters in Sweden but did it in fewer attempts to beat Obiena for the silver.Duplantis topped the competition with a meet record of 6.10 meters.
