MANILA, Philippines: World number two pole vaulter Ernest John 'EJ' Obiena has called on the wife of former Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie to apologize for her comments that she made online.
On Tuesday, James Lafferty, Obiena's mentor and sponsor, said should she do so, they will not pursue any legal charges against Anais Lavillenie, who made the claim last week that Obiena was doping.'Accountability is important, and a proper apology and retraction is an acceptable form of accountability,' Lafferty said in a report.
Reiterating his comments made during a press conference with Obiena from Dubai last week, Lafferty said they will not stay silent on the matter.'Staying silent given who the accuser is, was never an option,' he said.It can be recalled that during the virtual press conference last Thursday, October 17, Obiena's camp said they were discussing with lawyers from France and the Philippines.
