A 9-year-old child was wounded and a woman was injured in a crash after an Oakland freeway shooting Tuesday night, authorities said.
According to a statement Wednesday afternoon by the California Highway Patrol, officers responded around 10 p.m. to initial reports of a shooting in eastbound l-580 lanes east of Fruitvale Avenue.
One vehicle, which had been hit by multiple bullets, managed to keep traveling to the 35th Avenue exit where it exited and drove some more before crashing at the intersection of Brookdale Avenue, where CHP officers, police and medical personnel responded. There, they found a woman driver who was injured in the crash, and a 9-year-old boy sitting in the front passenger seat and suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
The shooting victims were taken to a hospital and were later listed in stable condition, the CHP said.There have been numerous shootings on Oakland freeways and in particular I-580.
