Christopher Philippeaux, 26, was recognized by NYPD cops from Public Service Area 5 – which covers the NYCHA development where he lives in East Harlem – on Thursday night and charged with assault as a hate crime in connection to the Sunday morning attack, police said.
“We don’t wear that in this country,” Philippeaux allegedly snarled, adding, “And take that mask off!” before he repeatedly punched the 19-year-old victim in the head, face and back, cops said. The shocking attack took place at around 9 a.m. on an MTA shuttle bus near 118th Street and Liberty Avenue in the Little Guyana neighborhood, authorities said.
The victim suffered a minor cut and pain, according to cops. He refused medical attention at the scene. The NYPD released surveillance images early Monday of the suspect wearing a yellow winter coat, which ultimately helped the arresting cops identify him, police said. Ready for an emergency?
