GROUPS of nurses in the country have expressed opposition to the proposal of Health Secretary Ted Herbosa to issue temporary licenses to nursing graduates who fall short from passing the board exams.

To address the shortage of nurses in the country as most of them opt to work abroad due to higher salary, the PNA said there should have an inclusive implementation of the intended salary grade, more plantilla positions to end contractualization, expanded health and non-health benefits for nurses, positive practice environment, and enactment of the Comprehensive Nursing Bill.

“Meron tayong pool of or surplus of nursing manpower bakit pinipilit ba nating itulak itong mga ito, hindi ho ba hindi pa nga natin maibigay ‘yung nakakabuhay na sahod, hindi pa maibigay ang lahat ng benepisyo tapos kukuha ka na naman, sasabihin bibigyan sila ng P35,000 starting salary,” she said in a radio interview.

“Kasi paano mo na naman sasabihin na inaappreciate mo ang ating mga registered nurses e kukuha ka nga ng mga non-registered nurses to take over their positions at ‘yung mga licensed nurses magiging dagdag pa sa trabaho nila ang pagtingin sa mga unlicensed kasi ang nakasalang ‘yung kanilang lisensya,” she said.Philippine Regulatory Commission Commissioner Jose Cueto Jr.
