About 79 percent of Filipinos are expecting to have a happy Christmas this year–the highest since the record-high 82 percent in 2002, based on the Social Weather Stations survey results released on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, expectation of a sad Christmas fell to a record-low 2 percent in 2019, down from 5 percent in 2017. This surpassed the previous record-low of 3 percent in 2002. Compared to 2017, expectation of a happy Christmas rose in Visayas, rest of Luzon, and Metro Manila, but declined slightly in Mindanao.

It increased slightly in Metro Manila from 69 percent in 2017 to 70 percent in 2019. This was highest since the record-high 77 percent in 2002.During the same survey period, SWS also found 76 percent of Filipinos saying it was “better to give” this Christmas season, while 23 percent said it was “better to receive.”
