‘Numb’ Giant opens up ‘hardest game’ in AFL as hostile moment sets wild scenes
post-match, gun Giants halfback Lachie Ash admitted the environment was like nothing he’d played in before.
“I take satisfaction in that crowd shutting up when we’re on top, it gives you a bit of a lift, but it was loud out there. I turned it over and the kicked a goal from it and it was pretty loud, I was thinking: ‘Jeez, that’s me.’ The one-point result could’ve gone either way in the end, but the Giants’ fairytale was crushed after their remarkable run from seventh place. With so many of his teammates playing in their first preliminary final, the 22-year old hopes the club will be better placed moving forward.
“We wish we were playing next week so we could play in front of that crowd again ... that’s why you put the hard work in over the off-season. Everyone wants to play in those games against the biggest clubs, in the biggest moments on the biggest stages.including being one of many Giants on the ground on the final siren to understand the extent of the agonising loss for the visitors.“Obviously it was a good game and they’re a good team.
