MANILA, Philippines: Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards team owner Bong Cuevas offered no excuses as his team relinquished their title in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Fifth Season.

The Rice Vanguards got swept by the San Juan Knights in their best-of-3 North semifinals series following their 80-88 Game Two loss last Friday at their home turf Nueva Ecija Coliseum.'We are extremely sorry for letting you down and for failing to defend our crown this season,' said Cuevas in a statement on Saturday, November 4.'It's been a tough season but we offer no excuses for not being able to bring back the championship to Nueva Ecija.

Nueva Ecija pulled within five, 77-82, after a Renz Palma trey at the 1:19 mark. After a defensive stop, Byron Villarias got a chance to pull the home team closer but missed his three-point attempt, paving the way for Marvin Taywan and Michael Calisaan to deliver the killer blows.Deflating as the loss is, Cuevas and Rice Vanguards would rather look forward to forming an even stronger team in their bid to regain the crown next season and make the Novo Ecijanos proud and happy anew in the process.
