Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki has shed some light on how he intends to use Edson Castillo with Sibongiseni Mthethwa in the side.
Molefi Ntseki has explained a new role for Kaizer Chiefs midfield schemer Edson Castillo after the arrival of Sibongiseni Mthethwa.Head coach Molefi Ntseki believes Edson Castillo’s role will need a subtle tweak with the arrival of Sibongiseni Mthethwa. Castillo has already scored four times in 11 appearances at the base of midfield, and he might be able to venture even further forward with specialist “6” Mthethwa now in the fold.
“Yes, I think in our profiling of Castillo we were fully aware that he is an eight and a six because he was scoring for his team back home in Venezuela,” Ntseki said at the club pre-match press conference on Monday afternoon. “That is the player we needed, which is why the profile we have done to bring him to Kaizer Chiefs was important and I think he proved us right in terms of the qualities he possesses as an individual.
“For the past four games we have been playing Castillo as an eight, we realised that we play him as a six, he has to cover too big of a distance to into the goals and score but now that he is playing more as an eight, he knows he has got cover whenever he releases the ball or going into transition. “I think Yusuf [Maart] has been doing well in the number six role, which was a very good discovery from our side to say he can be a conductor of this orchestra, playing as a six.The Glamour Boys face Cape Town City on Wednesday evening at 19:30 looking for a second consecutive win in the DStv Premiership. Chiefs lost the corresponding fixture last season on the final day, a defeat which consigned them to fifth place in the table.
