NTSB began an effort to see if Tesla's 'autopilot' feature was involved in the crash, but the agency dropped the inquiry before figuring that out.

Video of a violent car crash at the Greater Columbus Convention Center last week shows the Tesla ran a red and smashed into the side of the building.

"We are interested in any vehicle that is operating under some sort of autonomous mode or utilizing an autopilot feature. Presumably the vehicle still has the electronic data recorder ... so if we wanted to get that data, we could — if we had decided to investigate it." The video shows the Tesla driver, identified by police as 63-year-old taxi driver Frantz Jules, nearly clipping the rear of another a car waiting to turn left from Vine onto North High, then launching into the air and through a glass wall at speeds that authorities say were close to 70 mph.

Jules told police"he lost control of his brakes and was unable to stop" as he traveled on Route. 315, so he exited the highway Downtown, according to a police report. "According to the driver the car stayed at a steady speed of 70 mph."
