The lockout in Greater Darwin will end at midnight tonight after one new case, who the Chief Minister says has been in quarantine during his entire infectious period, is recorded in the Northern Territory.
The Greater Darwin lockout will end at midnight tonight, Chief Minister Michael Gunner says, despite the Northern Territory recording one new case of COVID-19.Wastewater testing in Greater Darwin has returned negative resultsMr Gunner said the positive case was a household contact of the first case detected in the outbreak last week.
He entered Howard Springs on November 5 and has been in isolation for his entire infectious period, Mr Gunner said. He initially tested negative on arrival at Howard Springs and his second test also came back negative.NT Deputy Chief Health Officer Charles Pain said the new case was not a threat to the community.
"We're very confident that doesn't create any further risk … [and] we are now in a position to lift our lockout at midnight," he said.A mask mandate will remain in place in Greater Darwin until 5pm on Friday.Yesterday Mr Gunner announced the lockout for Greater Darwin, which was due to originally lift at midnight on Sunday, would be extended by 24 hours for a second time.
Mr Gunner says wastewater testing and contact tracing efforts indicate it is safe to lift the Greater Darwin lockout.
