OPINION: The party needs to look to the future and present itself as one of sensible and stable government by rejecting the disastrous Voice of Anthony Albanese.

every government in mainland Australia. Still, they can retake comfort that history teaches us two things: politics moves in cycles and the cycle will turn.NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet concedes defeat on Saturday night. Understandably, Liberal members and supporters are feeling depressed.

There’s more to come. The cost of getting to net zero by 2050 will be eye-watering and that pain will be accompanied by escalating energy prices, low productivity and a flat economy. Currently, our politicians all embrace net zero but haven’t a clue how to get there without destroying our living standards.

Now, the Labor Party has a new proposal. It’s not just about recognition, it’s about changing the whole basis on which government works in Australia. Labor wants Australians to vote for an entirely new chapter in the Australian constitution, which would require the representatives of one race of Australians to be consulted on anything that remotely could be construed as having an effect on them.

Of course, proponents of the current model say none of this matters because the Voice will only be able to give advice and not make decisions. But as the prime minister himself has pointed out, it will be a bold government that defies the Voice. Added to that, the Voice will torpedo good government in Australia and become a focus of bitter and trenchant political debate.

Voice to Parliament to be heard ‘loud and clear’: SA Attorney-GeneralVoice to Parliament to be heard ‘loud and clear’: SA Attorney-GeneralSouth Australia Attorney-General Kyam Maher says the laws of state and colony have “deliberately” disempowered and disenfranchised Indigenous people and by establishing a voice to parliament in SA will ensure it is heard “loud and clear'. “In decades and centuries gone by, the laws of our state and the colony that preceded it have done so much to deliberately disenfranchise, disempower and disadvantage Aboriginal people, today we use those laws to do exactly the opposite,” Mr Maher said during a media conference on Sunday. “South Australia now leads the nation by legislating for a First-Nations Voice, a voice that’s empowered to speak to the parliament – directly to the decision-makers who’ve so often struggled to make meaningful change, a voice that will help decision-makers create enduring, positive change for the future. “Friends, today isn’t the end of a journey, it’s the beginning, enshrining a voice to parliament in law is the first step in our commitment to the full implementation of the Uluru Statement From The Heart – voice, truth, treaty and we’ll deliver on all three.” “The Voice to Parliament will be heard loud and clear in shaping the approach to the tasks ahead – today we’ve lit a beacon of hope for the nation.”
