The PM headed out to Ryde for some last-minute campaigning for Labor leader Chris Minns, who has his sights set on returning Labor to government after 12 years on the opposition benches. Follow live here.
After a final week of campaigning in which both political leaders have toured the NSW South Coast and Southern Tablelands as well as Sydney’s northwestern and south-western fringes, it’s refreshing to learn the NSW Liberals and Labor have chosen their respective heartlands for their election night bashes.
Sofitel was where Scott Morrison claimed a shock victory in 2019 and Malcolm Turnbull took forever to make an appearance in 2016 as the Coalition endured a shock 3 per cent swing away from the party to Labor. It’s also where in 2019, a triumphant Gladys Berejiklian became the state’s first female to become elected state premier.
Besides, the Hilton hotel next to Town Hall Station and a new CBD light rail is a reasonable vantage point from where NSW MPs and supporters can gaze on infrastructure built and completed under a Coalition government. Nothing like an on-time train and a zippy new light rail for an election-eve advertisement.will be based at the Hilton as the votes start rolling in – even as the Liberals in a shock move have kicked back a start time to 7:30pm local time, a full 1.5 hours after the polls close.
