Robbie O’Davis had one simple task, but his devastating health battle left his wife to pick up the pieces.
Robbie’s wife Louise said the concussion effects are devastating as she recalled a recent example of how the condition plays a part of the daily life of her family.“Robbie forgot to pick up one of the kids this week from drama and I had spoken to him at 3.30 in the afternoon and he said ‘I’m leaving work now and I’ll be on my way’.Robbie shook his head and laughed about the incident and said he “still can’t remember”.
Asked about what he remembers from his two premierships that he won with the Newcastle Knights, Robbie struggles to recall any details about the games.“Even watching the grand finals now, I’ve watched them that many times, I can’t remember doing them.”Depression and mood swings are symptoms of CTE, and as life got so bad for Robbie, he contemplated the same suicide attempt while sitting on the edge of a cliff six times.
“I didn’t want anyone to know I was a litterer. Aboriginal man throwing litter all over his country.” Robbie said he has “had not contact” from the NRL, while Louise added: “We’ve got silence. They don’t want to know, or they don’t care.”
