Former governor of Bauchi State and Chairman, Governing Council of the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, Alhaji Isa Yuguda, has vowed not to interfere in the affairs of the institution outside the mandate of the council.
Yuguda, speaking on Friday, during his maiden visit to the institution, said the council would work to uplift the standard of the school to a recognisable level.
Yuguda, who spoke after meeting with university ‘s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Femi Peters and other principal officers of the institution, pledged that the governing councils, led by himself, would work assiduously to reposition it.However, he sought support and contribution of staff and students of the institution to succeed in the council’s mandate.
“Because, we have managed organisations that were successful. We know our assignment here. We have the constitution of the university. They know their schedule of duties and we know ours. The Minister of Education had during the inauguration of the governing councils of federal tertiary institutions, tasked appointees not to interfere in the daily running of their respective institutions. The institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Femi Peters, speaking earlier, countered claim that NOUN students were exempted from the students’ loans being disbursed by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, to both students of federal and state universities.
