The Irish Breakdown staff makes predictions for the matchup between Notre Dame and Louisville
The 10th-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the 25th-ranked Louisville Cardinals square off this weekend in what will be a big time game for both squads. Notre Dame is looking to keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive, and the Cardinals are looking for the first big signature win of theThis could really be a battle for Notre Dame, and I thought of making it a 31-24 prediction.
Louisville has outstanding corners, and that concerns me a bit against a struggling Notre Dame receiving corps. My confidence, however, comes from my expectation for the offensive line and run game to bounce back. That should open up some pass game opportunities for Hartman and the pass catchers. It might be a battle for awhile, but I do expect the Irish to pull away in the second half.
The good news for Notre Dame is that Louisville, though talented, is not on the level of Ohio State or Duke defensively. I see Notre Dame starting slow offensively again as the Louisville defense flies around early, but a physical Irish offense line and unflappable QB play fromwill allow the Irish to start to lean on the Cardinal defensive line as the game goes on.
Another dominant performance from the Fighting Irish defense buys the offense some time to get going as well, as QB's lack of mobility lets the Irish linebackers focus on stopping explosive RB. Plummer is a quality player, but without the threat of the running game, he won't be able to do enough through the air against a great Irish secondary.
