Akron native and real estate agent Candice Eberhardt has some advice for women and women of color as Women’s History Month wraps up. “If there’s a goal that you wish to reach, just because it hasn’t been done doesn’t mean that it can’t be done,” she said.

“If there’s a goal that you wish to reach, just because it hasn’t been done doesn’t mean that it can’t be done,” Eberhardt said. “I want them to be empowered to not be afraid to take that first step and not to be afraid to go after what seems to be unobtainable.”Akron Cleveland Association of RealtorsEberhardt comes from a family of trailblazers in the field.

Eberhardt was named president in 2022, which meant she would oversee an organization of over 7,000 Realtors in Northeast Ohio. This year she serves as immediate past president, with Akil Hameed, another leader of color, the current president. This quest was not without its struggles, particularly as a Black woman in the real estate industry. According to recent census data, fewer than 6% of real estate professionals are Black, though. And with a lack of representation can come obstacles unique to people of color in predominately white professions.

As president of the ACAR, she aimed to not only continue the mission of the organization, but to help it mirror the diverse communities that it serves. Though there had already been efforts to create a Diversity and Inclusion Presidential Advisory Group, Eberhardt was able to be instrumental in pushing that effort forward.
