Treasurer Jim Chalmers says the Albanese government maintains the appetite to continue marching strong ahead of the Voice to Parliament referendum despite increasing antipathetic sentiments towards the Yes campaign.
Marking 10 years in Parliament on Saturday, the senior Labor MP spoke at length in an interview with the Guardian’s political podcast on issues around the economy, trade and taxation, where he also doubled down on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s headstrong crusade for the constitutional recognition of Indigenous Australians through the Voice.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers admits support for the Voice to Parliament appears grim but is confident the weeks of campaigning coming ahead. “When you are trying to do things and you’re trying to change things, then you invite some turbulence. I mean, that’s just how it is,” he said.
