Fifteen aldermen have announced they won't seek reelection next year or have left the City Council in recent months.
Thirtieth Ward Ald. Ariel Reboyras, shown at a Chicago City Council meeting in May, announced he won't run again after 20 years.
“Serving the residents of the 30th Ward since 2003 has been an unbelievable honor. I have seen this neighborhood change and grow. After 20 years, now is the time for me to regain my position as your neighbor and community activist,” Reboyras said.Sign up for The Spin to get the top stories in politics delivered to your inbox weekday afternoons.
In 2019, Reboyras was forced into a runoff against challenger Jessica Gutierrez, daughter of former U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, though he still eked out a victory. Gutierrez was just barely mapped out of the new 30th Ward in the decennial redistricting process following the 2020 Census — a result she blames on Reboyras.
