KUALA LUMPUR: The first Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) party polls is seen to be shaping up as the platform for two big names in the party to consolidate party grassroots support across the nation.

Party insiders are terming it as a power play of the north and south, as supporters of party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir try to shore up stronger support for their respective leaders.

“It’s about the future because there will be an increase in members in the long run. So, supporters of Muhyiddin and Mukhriz want to create their own factions to counter the influence of the new members, ” said sources. If the planned crossover does happen, the sources said a number of Bersatu leaders, who are political greenhorns have already anticipated they would be disadvantaged in terms of experience and resources.
