F1: Lando Norris has been hit with a setback in Qualifying after an unfortunate yellow flag, as Charles Leclerc took pole position.

Both his Q3 laps were fast enough to get the job done, but his final attempt really hammered home his advantage, gapping the field by 0.321 seconds.
“I think it’s very, very even,” he said. “Through all of practice it looked very tight between us, Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull. Perhaps it’ll be exactly the kind of race Norris needs to recover from 17th on the grid and rescue his championship challenge.There was considerable confusion following Q1 when Norris found himself on the wrong side of a yellow flag on his final lap.
He was then shown a waved white flag, notifying him of a slow-moving car on track but requiring no action. As Norris enters the kink, a flashing yellow board lights up on the far side of the track. He duly backs out, sweeps around Ocon and returns to pit lane, his lap ruined. “I’m pretty sure the FIA may acknowledge that the yellow flag wasn’t required and maybe there was a marshal that was too eager. It’s a bit unfortunate that we had this yellow flag deployed, and this caught Lando in his important lap to go through Q1.”It was doubly painful for Norris on another day of struggle for title leader Max Verstappen.
“The car became incredibly unpredictable, difficult, just because of the changes that we made. We changed some things around and the car started jumping around a lot and you lose the contact patch with the tarmac.” “I think definitely on the first stint I should be strong,” he said. “It will be down to the amount of progress I’m able to make, and then from then on just head down and hopefully we are able to be as strong in the race. That will be very important.”
The weekend started badly, with a big smash in FP1 that took so long to repair he missed part of FP2, but from there he didn’t put a foot wrong. In fact he excelled. “I hope the world can see what we were seeing now and why he deserves a chance in that seat,” Vowles told SiriusXM. “He’s made me proud, he really has.”
