De La Salle cruises past Buchanan-Clovis, Bellarmine rallies to force extra innings, then erupts to reach semifinals.
De La Salle seems to flip a switch when it comes to the CIF NorCal Regional and North Coast Section playoffs. The Spartans won their 28th straight in one of those tournaments, scoring five runs in the first two innings and coasting past Buchanan in Tuesday’s quarterfinals.The Spartans will be at home again on Thursday in the semifinals against Franklin-Elk Grove , which beat Hollister 5-4.
Hershey worked the first six innings and scattered six hits. Karst took over in the seventh after the first two Buchanan hitters reached base. Things looked a bit bleak for the Bells entering the seventh and final inning Tuesday. But Bellarmine scored twice in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 6-6, then erupted for five runs in the 10th.Kingsburg, located south of Fresno, seemed to have the game in hand going to the seventh. But Luke Rooney doubled and Calem Filipek singled to put runners at first and third. Trent Malik singled home one run and Chase Knight hit a sacrifice fly for the equalizer.
The hitters dominated the early innings, with Kingsburg holding a 5-4 edge after two innings.
