CHERAS: About 200 non-Malay associate Bersatu members have shown up at the party's annual general assembly here.

Mainly comprising those of Chinese and Indian ethnicities, the members, clad in red Bersatu T-shirts aged in their 20s and 30s, sat in the observers' gallery and left after party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's speech.

Bersatu Associate Members leaders Datuk R. Sri Sanjeevan and Datuk Goh Gaik Meng said they had come from various parts of the country to show support for Muhyiddin, who was recently charged in court with corruption and misuse of power. "This may be a Malay-based party but we are here to show support as we believe that this party is for all races.

"Members of the present government said many things when they were in the opposition but they made U-turns on many of these when they came to power.Goh also said Muhyiddin, the eighth prime minister, had helped businesses to survive during the Covid-19 pandemic, regardless of race.Bersatu held its delayed 2022 annual general assembly over three days from March 10 to 12.
