Nolan Cernosek suffered a broken femur bone that led to the discovery of bone cancer.
As Nolan Cernosek rounded third base, he started to feel an intensifying pain in his right leg. Part of his brain urged him to slow down. Another part told him to speed up and ignore the discomfort. He couldn’t. Before the New Braunfels sophomore reached home plate base, he fell to the ground. He tried to get up, but he couldn’t move his leg. When a blinding sweep of pain hit him, he just started screaming.

Three days after that, on June 7, Cernosek was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer that effects fewer than 1,000 people per year in the United States. This began a process that has lasted five months and has resulted in chemotherapy, multiple surgeries and a lot of adversity.
