Syndergaard allows six runs in three innings and Will Benson hits a home run in the ninth that sends the Dodgers to their fourth loss in a row, 8-6. It is their longest skid since May of 2022.
CINCINNATI — Whether Noah Syndergaard has made his final start in a Dodgers uniform is unclear, but 12 starts into the season the results have been consistently poor and Wednesday night was no different.
“He’s going through it. He’s been going through it all year,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “It’s not from lack of effort, preparation, care … but it’s just not working. There’s things with that blister. There was a fingernail break tonight. He’s not going to make excuses. He understands it’s about performance.”
Syndergaard and one of the most hitter-friendly ballparks in MLB was always a recipe for trouble. The Dodgers have scored five runs or more in eight of his starts, but he has just one win to show for it because of a 7.16 ERA. He has given up five runs or more in three straight starts. Miguel Vargas’ second-inning homer put the Dodgers ahead 3-2 and Will Smith added a two-run homer in a three-run third that included Vargas’ RBI double. The Reds erased that four-run deficit in the bottom of the third with a pair of triples, Jonathan India’s sacrifice fly, Spencer Steer’s RBI single and Tyler Stephenson’s two-run homer.
