PETALING JAYA: There is no way PKR would allow Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to be Pakatan Harapan’s choice for prime minister while Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim becomes his deputy, says a PKR central committee member.
Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid, while not a member of the Pakatan presidential council, said he was aware that during the meeting Tuesday , certain leaders had put forward that proposal.
On the other hand, Parti Warisan Sabah and the four former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia MPs led by Dr Mahathir, supported the nonagenarian’s candidacy as premier for another six months, said the source. The meeting last Tuesday drew public attention as it was speculated that Pakatan’s choice for premiership would be deliberated amid its attempt to perform a counter-coup against the Perikatan Nasional government.
Universiti Malaya’s Prof Dr Awang Azman Awang Pawi described the Anwar and Dr Mahathir political dynamic as a double-edged sword, where it could be the source of the coalition’s strength, or its downfall.
