Steam has been around for more than 20 years and with many of its users getting by in age, it has prompted some folks to wonder if they could pass on their
accounts to their next of kin after they've departed this world. The short answer is: nope, you can't.
Someone on the Resetera forums confirmed the sad news with Steam support staff recently, asking if they could put their library in his will and that's when the company hit him with the bad news. The support team told them that once the owner goes off into the afterlife, their account would also follow them to the grave, or head off into Bellevue heaven, if you'd like.
Sure, there are ways to circumvent the ruddy Steam policy, including just giving your login details to the designated heir and have them change the payment card without notifying Valve of the account ownership. However, this is a short-term solution, as pointed out by some users; an account past the length of a person's average lifespan could effectively trigger the company to look into said account, which in turn could prompt it to terminate the account.
