Four-time Grammy winner robertglasper has collaborated Kendrick Lamar, Herbie Hancock and many others. Here's how you can see him at the upcoming indyjazzfest. 🎹🎷

Perhaps no genre is as reliant on feel and mood as jazz, and Glasper embraces it all.

Audiences, concert promoters and even the musicians playing alongside him can't be sure of where a show will go on a given night. This approach necessitates a backing band able to handle a variety of genres on the fly. To keep the beat, Glasper has enlisted Indianapolis' own Justin Tyson on drums. "I've topped the charts in R&B, hip-hop and jazz," Glasper explained."It's a real thing for me, so whoever's in my band has to be able to play all of those things at the highest level.""I never knew how much I needed the audience until COVID," he said."Whether it's four people or 2,000, you're used to playing in front of an audience all the time.

"It's like the world's f---ed up, what can I do? What's the one thing people want me to do? And that was at the top of the list," he explained.Glasper will begin a month-long New York residency following this weekend's Indianapolis performance. Though the pandemic led to creative success, he's been happy to lock back into regular performance.

"It feels great to be in front of again," Glasper said."To see in real time how you change or affect them, and how they affect you for the performance as well."
