Multiple people were displaced when a hotel on Spenard Road caught fire this morning, and no injuries or deaths were reported, said the deputy chief of the Anchorage Fire Department.

Multiple people were displaced when a hotel near Anchorage’s international airport caught fire Sunday morning, and no injuries or deaths were reported, according to an Anchorage Fire Department official.

The Anchorage Fire Department received a call around 5:50 a.m. about the fire at the America’s Best Value Inn and Suites, located on the 4300 block of Spenard Road, according to deputy chief Alex Boyd. The department responded with 19 units and brought the fire under control by about 7:45 a.m., Boyd said.

It wasn’t clear how many people were displaced, Boyd said. The Red Cross was offering shelter at the Spenard Community Recreation Center, but so far, people displaced by the fire were able to receive accommodations within the hotel, said Taylar Sausen, spokesperson with the American Red Cross of Alaska.

The fire appeared to have started in an attic space — the main area where it was contained, Boyd said. The department will be investigating the cause of the fire, he added. “There will be crews on location working just because of the large area of the fire,” Boyd said Sunday. “They’ll be doing mop-up and cleanup on scene for several hours.”
