You probably saw it on your Facebook feed this morning.Costco is warning customers that the free $75 voucher doing the rounds on social media is indeed a fake.
"Despite several posts out there, Costco is NOT giving away $75 coupons," the company announced on Facebook."While we love our fans and our members, this offer is a SCAM, and in no way affiliated with Costco. Thanks to our fans for letting us know about this recurring hoax!" The scam claims that "Costco has announced that everyone who shares this link will be sent a $75 Coupon for it's anniversary. TODAY ONLY."
The fact that Costco's anniversary is actually September 15 should have been the first hint something was amiss; that misplaced apostrophe should have been the second.Clicking on link takes users to a survey, and after four more poor grammar-boasting questions, users are directed to share and like the post themselves to receive the $75 voucher -- which of course is not worth the paper you have to print it on.
Social media hoaxes are nothing new; every year users continue to share the same privacy declarations on their pages which they erroneously believe they need to protect ownership of their photographs from corporate Facebook and Instagram.
