No. 21 Texas avoided dropping its second straight game, pulling away over the final 30 minutes for a 41-20 win over a Roadrunners team that came out with a whole arm’s worth of tricks up it sleeves. Card completed 15-of-23 passes for 161 yards with one touchdown and no turnovers. He also ran twice for 35 yards.
Brady was involved in the second score, too. This time, the halfback handled a backward pass from quarterback Frank Harris then flung a pop-up to wideout Zakhari Franklin. The ball somehow dropped right between two Texas defenders as Franklin whirled around and grabbed the 35-yard touchdown pass to put UTSA up 17-7.
Johnson spent some time running the show as wildcat quarterback, handling direct snaps and either tucking it or handing off to his running mate. Both proved effective operating out of that scheme, with Johnson’s 16-yard run setting up Robinson’s first score, a 3-yard touchdown plunge with about six minutes remaining in the second quarter.
In turn, the offense stagnated as UTSA produced just one field goal over its final nine drives. And that’s when Texas busted the game open.
